TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design): This website will change the way you think.

I just found out about a fascinating website, thanks to this post, Chris Anderson Explains TED on Jim Grisanzio’s blog. The website is for a conference called TED (Technology, Entertainment, Design), which it described as follows:
The annual conference now brings together the world’s most fascinating thinkers and doers, who are challenged to give the talk of their lives (in 18 minutes).
I spent the last few hours, on the website, watching videos of some of the talks at the conference, and I was amazed. The speakers, giving the talks, obviously believe strongly in what they are doing and it shows. I highly recommend that you check out the TED website for yourself. My favourite talk so far is this one, Patrick Awuah: Educating a new generation of African leaders. This talk changed the way I think.

This is very powerful and profound. It speaks about many things, but what I take away from this is that societies must take responsibility in solving their problems.
We cannot run away from our situation. We must be bold in confronting the ills that plague our societies, and in doing so, approach these problems with critical thinking and analysis in solving these problems, ethics, sacrifice, and the understanding that the solution to our problems lies within us all. This is even more true for those within a society that have been privileged or blessed with an education that is beyond the secondary level. Leaders are we all, and the understanding must be that with the power of education, our responsibility does not just lie with our families, friends, and ourselves.
The society that we wish to live in must be determined by us. Materialism, and confusion has been imposed and promoted on poorer countries by the media, foreign powers, and our leaders. The time for enlightenment of our people is now. Our renaissance is within our grasp.
The African phrase Ubuntu sums it up for us - ‘Humanity to others’, or ‘I am what I am because of who we all are’

TED is a fascinating conference. If you ever get an invitation to go, GO.
